What Do The People Of Horsham Think Of Crawley?

Updated: July 30, 2015

We ventured to Shelley Fountain in Horsham for the afternoon to get local resident’s views on Crawley. We had a lot of laughs and the passers-by seemed to find the question very funny. We got more ‘off-camera’ remarks than we managed to film but ultimately, people played up to the town rivalry and were all in good spirit.

One thing that we hadn’t anticipated was frequent comments relating to the shopping in Crawley being a lot better than Horsham. Many spoke of the increased variety The County Mall provides and many people admitted that they travel to Crawley to purchase items on a regular basis. People spoke of the diversity of our town and that the Asian communities are better catered for in Crawley.

We also got a lot of ‘banter’ regarding the safety of our town and were even asked if we were part of a gang at one point!

All in all, a mixed response but some hilarious comments and stories were enjoyed and the town were happy to accommodate our inquisitiveness.

An elderly man also shared this joke about Crawley with us:

“Saint Peter is sitting at the Pearly Gates when a gaggle of newcomers arrive outside. Saint Peter looked out through the Gates and said, “Wait here. I’ll be right back. We weren’t expecting anyone else today!”

Saint Peter goes over to God and tells him who is waiting at the entrance. God tells Peter to go back and let them in.

Saint Peter goes back, looks around and lets out a heavy sigh.

The Crawley people were gone…

And so were the Pearly Gates”

The old man chuckled and walked away.

Many were excited to hear what Crawley makes of Horsham. What do you think the comments will be?!
